Ai.Bi. Associazione Amici dei Bambini is a NGO - Non Governmental Organization, constituted by a movement ofadoptive and foster families, who fights every day to guarantee the right of abandoned children to be part of a family.

Background

Since 1986 Ai.Bi. works each day alongside the worldwide institutionalized children in order to fight against the emergency of abandonment. Our Association has a National head-office in Italy and 14 regional offices and information-points, worldwide has branches in Eastern Europe, America, Africa and Asia. Our main activities are: International Adoption, Cooperation Projects and Long-distance Support, Support to Foster care, Family-like Homes and Temporary Foster care in Italy,Promotion of children right to a family,Cultural promotion about the emergency of abandonment

Mission

According to UNICEF estimates, there are approximately 168 million children in the world who are growing up without the love of a family.They often live in an institution or in shelters, cared for, fed, clothed. But without a loving caress of a real family.A huge number that is growing 5 million every year and make the child abandonment, the fourth humanitarian emergency. An emergency all the more dramatic because it is invisible: hunger, disease, war make people die, the abandonment silently kills the souls.There is a possible answer: the insertion in a real family. Amici dei Bambini daily works to overcome abandonment and guarantee to every child the right to a continuous bond with mom and dad, that doesn’t interrupt not even for a day.In particular, intervention of Ai.Bi. is addressed to: Prevent abandonment, through support, preparation and accompanying of the families, or by creating mother-child communities. Suspend abandonment, promoting the foster-care as a type of temporary help substitute for the educational Centers, by supporting the foster families, creating and starting up Family-like homes. Overcome abandonment, working for the reintegration of children in their family of origin or, where this it’s not possible, assuring them a family through domestic and International Adoption. Accompany abandonment, helping older children, for whom the dream of a family never come true, to find their own way and have a better future.
