Background

The urban poor women development (UPWD) is local non-government, non-profit, and non political organization which was established in August 1997. UPWD was registered with the Ministry of Interior in 1998 as an NGO. Since inception, the organization is actively involved in influencing state registration in favor of the urban poor, and in strengthening the capacity of the urban women’s groups in empowering them to exercise their power to secure their rights, and in addressing the issues of slum infrastructure and poverty to improve the basic amenities and livelihood rights of the urban poor.
