Overview

Water is life. The world needs water to survive. And yet many people have very little water, or it is dirty and contaminated. Clear Cambodia is changing this for the rural people of Cambodia. For more than 16 years Clear Cambodia (previously Hagar International’s water filter program) has been implementing the BioSand Filter (BSF) technology in tandem with health and hygiene training and initiatives to improve the lives and health of rural Cambodians. Clear Cambodia works closely with community leaders and local authorities to provide sustainable and low cost potable water, as well as latrines and training in health education to ensure long-lasting behavior change. These initiatives are so successful that each year more than 30,000 requests are received from households, and many more from rural schools, wishing to participate in the programs.As of December 2015, Clear Cambodia (and the Hagar Water Filter Program) has worked in 11 provinces, implemented over 150,000 Household BioSand Filters, commissioned approximately 250 School BioSand Filters, and provided clean water to an estimated 870,000 rural beneficiaries (impacting approximately 6% of the national population).
