Overview

Marie Stopes Cambodia (MSC) was established as a local non-government organisation in September 1998 with the financial, technical and managerial support of Marie Stopes International (MSI). MSC is registered with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health (MoH) and has been involved in policy development with the MoH for the National Reproductive Health Program. MSC is a member of the Medicam network an umbrella NGO for all organizations working in the health sector, and is an active member of HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee (HACC), a HIV/AIDS NGO forum. MSC works closely with other local and international NGOs to address the reproductive health of the population. MSC has a network of three clinics that offer SRH services in Chbar Ampouv, Takhmao and Koh Kong works at a community level to provide family planning, STI detection and treatment, HIV/AIDS prevention and voluntary confidential counselling (VCCT) and testing, in addition to locally based advocacy, community awareness and education about SRH. Whilst services are available across the whole community, our target audience is primarily sex workers, garment/factory workers, adolescents and housewives.

Background

Marie Stopes Cambodia (MSC) was established as a local non-government organization in September 1998 with the financial, technical and managerial support of Marie Stopes International (MSI). MSC currently operates three clinics in Phnom Penh, Kandal and Koh Kong provinces. The Chbar Ampov clinic was established in November 2000 and has become the service provider of choice for many women in Chbar Ampov and the surrounding areas. The centre targets women of reproductive age either living in the area or who frequent the Chbar Ampouv market. Through targeted outreach awareness raising activities and promotion, and a formalized system of referrals from local market stall holders, pharmacy owners, beauty salon owners and other NGO’s, MSC is increasingly becoming trusted as a provider of client-focused, affordable reproductive health services. In 2003, in excess of 8,000 clients were provided with reproductive health services. The centres offer a full range of sexual and reproductive health services including family planning and counselling, ante natal care, contraceptives, STI prevention, screening and treatment, and HIV testing and counselling. MSC also co – managed a clinic in Svay Pak with Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) from June 2001, and took over full management responsibilities on January 1, 2002. The clinic was then handed over to Pharmaciens Sans Frontiers (PSF) in July 2003. The clinic provided general health, STI diagnosis and treatment, and voluntary HIV counselling and testing to commercial sex workers (CSWs) in the area. MSC is a local NGO and is registered with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health (MoH) and has been involved in policy development with the MoH and National Reproductive Health Program and works with other local and international NGOs to address the RH needs of the population. It has a board constituting 7 board members and holds a letter of understanding (LOU) with Marie Stopes International.
