Overview

Oxfam-Québec is a non-profit, secular, non-partisan and non-governmental organization (NGO). An important player in development support since 1973, Oxfam-Québec bases its actions on partnership and on an integrated approach to development. We support sustainable development in more than 20 countries. As a member of Oxfam International network which includes its different chapters throughout the world, Oxfam-Québec has been working in combating human trafficking to protect and empower returnee and people at risk of trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region.

Background

Oxfam-Québec has been in Cambodia since the early 90’s working primarily in the area of food security. Our focus has been around food production, self-help groups and capacity building for local NGOs and farmer organizations. Between 1994 and 2001, OQ has managed a poverty reduction programme by working with poor farmers in the region of Pursat and been part of the establishment of Hattha Kaksekar, a micro-finance institution. Up to 2006, OQ undertaken projects related to building capacity of fair/organic trade institutions; enhancing organizational capacity of the Community Cooperative for Rural Development (CCRD) on production, processing and marketing of organic rice; and partnering with Cambodian War Amputees Rehabilitation Society (CWARS) to assist land mine victims in terms of job re-entry or re-training.
