Overview
Violence Against Women and Children of Cambodia (VAWCC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1997 based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. VAWCC’s mission is to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children while provide assistance to victims of gender-based abuse of the women and children. VAWCC improving HIV/AIDS prevention.
Background
Trafficking of children and women is an issue that concerns many in Cambodia. The children and women are trafficked for prostitution, for begging and soliciting, and for work at construction sites, in factories and domestic worker. They often end-up in slave-like conditions with little or no choices over there lives and fate. In 1997 VAWCC initiated a development programme in Prey Veng Province, with a focus on providing training workshop on sex trafficking and HIV/AID Prevention. In 1998 VAWCC development programme in Kandal and central office in Phnom Penh work more on advocacy on national and grassroots level on women issues and HIV/AIDs. In 1998 VAWCC was supported by Dan Church Aid/Danida for the Advocacy and Community Organizing education for community. These programmes have included beneficiary people in community and student. In 1999 VAWCC was supported by Dan Church Aid and private donors for the project Awareness Raising Sex Trafficking and HIV/AIDS for people in the community in Kandal and Prey Veng. In October 2000 VAWCC was supported by IMPACT for the project HIV/AIDS training education for the student in secondary schools in Prey Veng Province. In 2001 VAWCC was supported by Dan Church Aid and other private donor on the project “ Awareness Raising on Trafficking and HIV/AIDS for the women garment workers in Phnom Penh.
