Background

Precious Women Ministry evolved from the desire of one woman, Solida Seng, to help young women working in KBB establishments (karaoke bar, beer gardens, brothels) in Phnom Penh to choose a better life. Solida was moved by the plight of these young women who were often coerced into having sex with the male customers for additional tips, because they were struggling to meet the financial needs of their families. From 2008-2010, Solida was working with Chab Dai in Cambodia and visited many different areas of the country. When she went to Toul Kork she came face to face with the reality of the sex industry, as many prostitutes were living and working in the area. In February 2010, Solida and her friends came together to pray about how they could help these women. Solida’s vision came to life then with her first donation of $20. She knew that if she was going to make a difference she would need the help of a willing team of volunteers, so she set to work contacting other people who could help her and invited them to a meeting. She used that first $20 to pay for the expenses of that initial meeting and ended up with seven people who pledged their help and support. Precious Women was born! Solida’s first big sponsor came through a personal friend, Glenn Miles, who works for an NGO called Love 146. This organization, based in the USA, was already engaged in the fight against sex trafficking in many countries across the globe. Glenn brought his boss from Love 146 to meet Solida and she gave her a personal donation of $300 to begin her work. With this money, Solida designed and printed Precious Women’s first business cards to distribute to the KBB workers, setting out their principles and contact information. These cards were handed out to KBB workers during the first outreach missions, so that the girls could contact them if they made the decision to leave their work. Love 146 pledged further funding to support the work of Precious Women in the future and with this guarantee of funding, the work of Precious Women began. Precious Women is now fully operational and is helping women from KBB establishments across Phnom Penh to regain their dignity and hope, and work in an environment free from exploitation. Now Precious Women reaches out and builds relationships with many women to give them new hope through careful counseling, and to help them gain back their confidence through education, new skills training, and employment opportunities. We are grateful to our many sponsors and individual donors for their vital financial support so that this ministry can continue to grow! Precious Women is a local NGO located in Phnom Penh Cambodia working to empower women who have been financially and sexually exploited. Our vision is to see these women working in an environment free of exploitation and for all women to be treated with dignity and equality.
