Overview

:* Universal values of humanity; each individual is to be fully respected with no discrimination or prejudice of any kind. Full social inclusion especially of indigenous peoples by and finding ways of including the most marginalized poor families living with vulnerabilities. Inherent participatory approach in all its work with the sole purpose of giving effect to real empowerment of its beneficiaries. Work constructively with other organizations serving disadvantaged people and with government and local authority officials but does not sacrifice core principles and the interests of beneficiaries to do so. Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards remains both true and paramount. It openly sets standards measured in quality and quantitative terms that serve best its beneficiaries and the organization. Gender equality is a prerequisite and mainstreamed in all activities. Sustainable solutions for self-reliance of indigenous communities, the environment and for future generations. Ensuring that international concepts, values, standards and terms are conveyed accurately in to the Khmer and other ethnic minority languages – in a way that retains true meaning but is understood and applicable in the local context. Promoting full accountability of all duty-bearers to its beneficiaries, within the organisation; of all stakeholders, including beneficiaries to each other

Background

* Nomad RSI has been working in the province of Mondulkiri , in the northeast of Cambodia, since 1997. The organisation has progressively developed its understanding of local health knowledge and practices, the prevailing healthcare situation of the province and, more generally, of Bunong society (the Bunong are the most numerous ethnic minority in Mondulkiri). Nomad RSI is today a major reference institution in this isolated region

Value

Nomad RSI works in the domain of international health and encourages therapeutic diversity and the protection of the environment. Its projects are principally conducted in the South and largely involve disadvantaged, minority communities. Nomad RSI’s programme in Cambodia has evolved to respond to unmet needs of indigenous communities, with the key aim of empowering them through their own federated local NGO “Mondulkiri Indigenous People’s Association for Development (MIPAD) – www.mondulkiri-centre.org In addition, Nomad RSI supports and conducts various activities in Europe, such as publishing books and organising debates, seminars and festivals. These events bring global (and local) health and environmental issues into the spotlight.

Mission

The organisation supports a range of therapeutic forms, each of which brings a different response and a different remedy for people who are, or who feel themselves to be, suffering. From this realisation, the idea of a reasoned medical pluralism is born, in which medical systems of many kinds, including biomedicine, can independently find their place

Vision

* Nomad RSI bases its programmes upon long-term collaboration between local teams, international development workers and academic researchers. The cross-fertilization of these forms of knowledge is fundamental to the vision and operation of the organisation, and the Research Unit of Nomad RSI (NRU) is of vital importance in these efforts.

Goal

1 To promote the general health; education and well-being of poor indigenous communities, through better lives and livelihoods, especially the most vulnerable and at-risk citizens. 2 To pioneer, test and prove effective and culturally-appropriate soluti
