Overview

CARE’s programs in Cambodia have a special focus on working with women and girls to bring sustainable changes to their communities and on promoting the rights and interests of marginalised ethnic minority communities.

Background

CARE is an international humanitarian organisation fighting global poverty by empowering women and girls. CARE was originally established in 1945. CARE has been in Cambodia since 1991. CARE Cambodia’s Program Strategy is explicitly oriented the empowerment of particularly marginalised and vulnerable women in Cambodia. CARE has begun transitioning to a long term program approach, orienting initiatives around impacts for specific groups of marginalised people.

Value

CARE recognises that the key to achieving equitable development outcomes lies in shifting deeply rooted, structural underlying causes of poverty and social and gender injustice which contribute to exclusion and vulnerability of particular groups in society. CARE Cambodia’s long term programs focus on significant and lasting change for identified impact groups: 1. Socially Marginalised Women [SMW]- experiencing multiple denial of their rights 2. Ethnic Minority Women [EMW]–who experience social isolation, discrimination and economic exclusion

Mission

In Cambodia CARE works with the poorest and most marginalised communities to address the root causes of poverty and vulnerability. This is achieved by: • Strengthening and building individual, organisational and institutional capacities • Building partnerships to facilitate long term sustainable change • Working to empower women and their communities to understand and use their rights • Supporting policy development and implementation through advocacy and dialogue

Vision

We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security. CARE International will be a global force and a partner of choice within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. We will be known everywhere for our unshakable commitment to the dignity of people.

Goal

CARE aims to help the people of Cambodia to reduce poverty, inequality and injustice over the next 10-15 years.
