Residential Childcare program, 2. Education Program, 3. Case Management program and 4. Community Outreach program SCV has conscientiously and fruitfully provided alternative care and has gained plenty of good practices, lesson learnt and experiences in protection and promotion of the 4 main rights of the children and to ensure that the best interests of the child has been particularly and entirely saved. We strive to fully meet and follow the MoSVY’s minimum standard and guidelines for both residential and family/community based care in accordance with the four overriding principles of the Conventions on the Rights of the Child: - The principle of the best interest of the child - The principle of non-discrimination - The principle of the right to survival, development and protection. - The principle of participation by the child in her/his own development

Background

Background The Sunrise Children's Villages are two orphanages located in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Australia Cambodia Foundation started in September 1993, following the first visit by Geraldine Cox and a friend in 1993. The orphanages are now known as Sunrise Children's Villages and they care for hundreds of orphaned or disadvantaged Cambodian children. Construction commenced in February for our third centre in Sihanoukville Province. The Australian corporation, Computershare, has generously donated more than US$500,000 to realize this dream for a third centre, through its worldwide staff giving program, for which Sunrise is very grateful. This centre will give a home, medical care and education to more than 100 HIV affected children. Your support of these orphanages through child sponsorship is an amazing gift that continues to give life, hope, education, health and a future to those who have nothing. History The helplessness and tragedy of these lost children was so moving that it was impossible not to be motivated and so small regular monthly donations were solicited by Geraldine and a circle of friends, from individuals, to feed one child, kick starting it all. At that time Geraldine was working in Sydney for the American corporation, Chase Manhattan Bank, now J. P. Morgan. She applied for a grant from The Chase Foundation in New York, which supported the project for five years with up to US$20,000 annually. In 2000 the name was changed to Sunrise Children's Village, as it conjured up visions of a new dawn and a fresh beginning for the orphans and disadvantaged children of Cambodia. In February 1998, an application to the Cambodian Government for the ACF to become a recognised Non-Government Organisation was approved. Memorandums of Understanding with the Cambodian Government have to be reviewed every three years. Sunrise has always passed with flying colours.

Mission

Sunrise strives to provide a safe haven for children at risk in the vicinity of our centers at Kandal, Siemreap and Sihanouk vile, offering care and support to any child at risk. We offer access to education, reintegration with families, life-skills training and creative and recreational activities, while ensuring protection from all forms of abuse. Our efforts allow underprivileged children to embrace their childhood so they can become responsible adults as well as positive, independent members of Cambodian society.

Vision

Sunrise envisions an environment where all children are allowed to grow up in their families feeling safe, healthy and happy; a society where all children are respected and treated equally; a community where all children are given choices about their future.
