Overview

Ponleur Kumar devote to furthering community development and implementing the children’s and women’s rights in the northwestern border province of Pursat and Banteay Meanchey in Cambodia. The project focuses on the wellbeing of vulnerable children and women in these provinces in order to reduce poverty in rural communities and eliminate all forms of violence against women and children through the following critical intervention strategies : (i) Livelihood Program is to improving the food security as a result of increased income generation options, and increased agriculture productivity, and accessed Emergency Preparedness and Responses, and increased access to and use of potable water, and increased ownership and solidarity among community member and improved capacity of the service providers to address livelihood needs of the poorest and vulnerable families especially vulnerable women in remotes area; and (ii) Education and training Program is to increasing the quality of life children especially girl at risk, and other vulnerable groups through providing the education opportunities, vocational skill training, psychosocial services, and improving the nutritional supplement, and promoting the children‘s right and reduction in level of gender-based violence & exploitation among vulnerable. (iii) Health Program: is reducing vulnerability to HIV and mitigated impact of AIDS among Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) through counseling service, education scholarship, nutritional supplement, vocational skill training, and raises awareness in local school against stigma discrimination. And the last strategies is also build and strengthen the capacity of CCs and local communities to actively engage with each other and address social and livelihood development issue through effective partnership. With strongly technical support , fund support and high motivation from various generous donors including DanChurchAids, Operation A Day’s Work, Concern, CARE International , Pact Organization, so it factor could help Ponleur Kumar able to implement 13 main activities in Pursat province and Banteay Meanchey province. The project location in both provinces covers 268 remotes communities of 24 communes in Bakan district and Sampov Meas district in Pursat province, and Malai district and Thmar Pouk district in Banteay Meanchey province as mentioned table below: These project activities include: • Vocational Skill Training and Job Employment Opportunities to girl at risk and adults from poorest of poor families. • Provide the technical agriculture training and Animal Raising • Providing the income generation activities options to poorest of poor families • Water and Sanitation • Disaster preparation/Relife (DP/DR) • Enhancing the community self reliance development through establish the community own cash saving, rice bank and community fundraising and build household latrine • Local Administrative and Reform at commune and community based organization level • Community and Provincial Awareness Raising for combating child trafficking/migration and domestic violence • Non Formal Education such as the literacy training, Community pre-school • Scholarship for poor girl to access education • Care and Support for Orphanage & Vulnerable Children who affect by HIV/AIDS • HIV/AIDS Prevention, it is provide to solider families. • Home Based Care for People living with HIV/AIDS • Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS

Background

Ponleur Kumar (PK) was localized formerly from Wathnakpheap (WP)/Pestalozzi Children's Village Foundation, an Switzerland-based international NGO (SKIP) - since 2003 and registered with the Cambodia Ministry of the Interior on March 18 2003. Register No.294. PK is a non-political, non-partisan, non-religious, non –profit and grassroots organization. Ponleur Kumar has a Governing Board, which establishes policies and ensures that strategic approaches are consistent with organizational aims. Its current Management Committee comprises of the Director and 2 Financial and Administrator Ofiicer, 2 Field Officer, and 2 Project Coordinators based in the both province. Ponleur Kumar works in partnership with the government, with local and international organizations to strengthen local capacity. Currently PK cooperates with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour, Vocational Training, and Youth Rehabilitation, works in partnership with three district governor Pursat Province and Banteay Meanchey Province, to able rural poor communities implementing their project activities such as mention as table below.
