Background

Apsara Mekong Association is an independent local association whose aims are to preserve, revive and promote the treasures of Cambodian culture to local and international audiences; the realm of tourism and its value-added services; the realm of craftsmanship; the realm of agriculture and community forest-nature preservation sites; the realm of environment, eco-system and physical infrastructures of the society at large; as well as the realm of social welfare including the minority ethnic communities, orphanage, nursing home and homeless; the realm of education, vocational and language training; the realm of human rights, juvenile or minor protection, human and child trafficking, human and child prostitutions, and human and child exploitations, and domestic violence etc. Founded in 2010, the Association was convened to give Cambodian artists the opportunities to perform and make a living from their artistic talents, and to bring Cambodian culture to a wide spectrum of spectators both locally and internationally. Within days of its existence, the Association has developed and exchanged a broad array of art repertoires especially the small shadow puppetries allowing the possibility for sharing experiences among local artists to arouse their artistic creativities and imaginations. The Association has a very diversifying service including: – Classical and Folk Dance (Robam Borane and Robam Pro Pey Ny) – Shadow Puppet Theatre (Lakhaon Sbaek Thom and Sbaek Touch) – Traditional Music (Such as Chapey and Pin Peat Orchestra…) – Edutaining project initiative – Circus, contemporary dance, and lots more creations, collaborations …
