Overview

World Education (WE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the poor through economic and social development programs. Globally, WE provides training and technical assistance in both formal and non-formal education for children and adults. WE’ s projects seek to improve basic education and enhance enrolment opportunities of children in underserved population who were out of school in target areas through the implementation model that was highly compatible with the policy framework of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and in particular greatly promoted the government’s recently-promulgated Child Friendly School Policy (2008). The use of stakeholder-driven development approaches, open-ended grants programmed by stakeholders, activity menus, and implementation through local committees were among the key features of the program’s design. For non-formal education, WE put its special emphasis on income generation, small enterprise development, literacy, education for the workplace, environmental education, reproductive health, maternal and child health orientation. Projects are designed to contribute to individual growth, as well as to community and national development.

Background

World Education, Inc. (WEI) has been working since 1951 to improve the lives of children and adults through education in over 50 countries. WEI works with private, public, and non-governmental organizations to support effective local management and partnerships that build the skills, knowledge, and resources of local groups. WEI currently works in 22 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as the United States and Australia. WEI has been working in both the formal and non-formal education sectors in Cambodia for over twenty years in an effort to provide improved educational opportunities for Cambodians and enhanced life outcomes. WEI has extensive experience working with the formal education system, promoting safe migration among vulnerable youth to prevent trafficking and exploitation, providing financial literacy training to improve livelihoods, and promoting health education. Throughout all projects, WEI incorporates capacity building, girls’ education, and information and communication technologies (ICT).
