Overview

Genesis Community of Transformation (GCT) is local Christian Cambodian non-governmental organization started by Mrs. Navy Chhay 05 October 2009 after she finished serving as country director for the CRWRC from 1998 to 2008. Currently GCT runs programs impacting and empowering people throughout Cambodia to achieve holistic and sustained transformation. GCT exists to build up the capacity of people in communities— especially youth, women and farmers— to mobilize their full potential and reach toward sustainable livelihood through community-based organizing, spiritual and professional empowerment and agricultural development.

Background

GCT’s founding director, Ms. Navy Chhay, brought together a group of individuals with extensive experience working with civil society organizations in order to address the skill training and employment needs of youth and women in Cambodia. After leading the CRWRC, an international relief and development organization and long-time member of CCC, as the Country Director for Cambodia for 10 years, Mrs. Navy resigned from the CRWRC and now focuses on creating meaningful job experiences and work opportunities for Cambodians. GCT provides job and career counseling, life skills trainings, monitoring and coaching on job readiness, job placements and volunteer and internship opportunities. In the future, GCT hopes to function similarly to an employment agency and offer services for job seekers. In this process, GCT seeks to collaborate with other NGOs, businesses and government ministries such as the Ministry of Labor, Technical and Vocational Education, which has a similar mandate to GCT.

Mission

1. Empower community, especially women to improve their well-being and the livelihood of their families by promoting the development of viable business, better health practices and social awareness and justice. 2. Develop youth’s talents, experiences, skills and knowledge for employment through career counseling, job training, volunteerism and internship. 3. Work with local farmers to create and promote the agricultural model to diversify organic products for agri-business in-order to generate income in an environmentally sustainable way

Vision

People and communities are holistically transformed to bring lasting development to Cambodian society.
