Overview

YFP is a local organization promotion peace among young people. The Peace component is designed to help youth develop self-confidence, spiritual awareness, and morality to effectively promote peace within themselves, their families, their communities, and their nation. Youth are given the opportunity to learn about their responsibilities, both to themselves and to their society. In the Leadership component YFP helps youth become aware of the social problems around them and identify possible solutions. Since 1999 YFP has trained many students to be active in building a culture of peace in Cambodia.

Background

Youth For Peace began in March 1999 when university students, Mr. Outh Renne, Mr. Long Khet, Mr. Ream Rothamony, and Ms. Bou Makara came together with concern for the youth in Cambodia. They contributed their own money for workshop materials, snacks, and other expenses. Without an office, they met under the trees and in some private school, some public school would not allow them to meet, because school directors were worried that YFP was related to a political party.
