Overview

Save the Children is one of Australia’s leading aid and development agencies dedicated to helping children. With the support of thousands of generous Australians, we protect millions of children from harm and help them access quality education and health services. We have more than 90 years’ experience with vulnerable children and are one of the world’s most experienced agencies in disaster relief and humanitarian aid. As an independent organisation, we are not affiliated with any religious or political organisation.

Background

Save the Children has been working in Cambodia since 1970. The children’s aid agency had to leave the country when the Khmer Rouge regime took control but re-engaged when they fell in 1979. Save the Children provided relief assistance to the worst affected families under the Khmer Rouge regime and then gradually shifted its focus to education, child protection, health, child rights governance and disaster relief. We work closely with government partners and local NGO partners to improve children’s lives, especially those living with disabilities, children in contact with the law, and orphaned, vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

Mission

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

Vision

Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
