Overview

Plan International Cambodia is an international, child-centered development organization without religious, political or governmental affiliation. As an international organization, committed to the well-being of the children and to supporting the Convention of the Rights of the Child, Plan does not tolerate child abuse. Children are at the heart of everything we do. Plan is a Child Centred Community Development (CCCD) organisation: we work with children, their families, communities, organisations and local governments to bring about positive change. Listening to what children have to say about their rights, needs and concerns is key to this approach. We encourage and help children to take an active role in finding solutions to their problems and realising their full potential.

Background

Plan International was founded in 1937 to provide food, accommodation and education for children whose lives had been disrupted by war. The two cofounders, a journalist and a refugee worker, conceived the idea of a personal relationship between a child and a sponsor – a model that puts the child at the centre and today remains the core of what Plan International does. The idea that problems faced by many children can be reflected in the story of one child’s life helps people to see the human face of poverty and, more importantly, how they can help. Plan International came to Cambodia in 2002. Plan International Cambodia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and later with the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education Youth and Sports. Plan is now working in the provinces of Siem Reap, Tboung Khmum, Ratanak Kiri and Stung Treng

Value

We strive for lasting impact: We strive to achieve significant and lasting impact on the lives of children and young people, and to secure equality for girls. We challenge ourselves to be bold, courageous, responsive, focused and innovative. We are open and accountable: We create a climate of trust inside and outside the organisation by being open, honest and transparent. We hold ourselves and others to account for the decisions we make and for our impact on others, while doing what we say we will do. We work well together: We succeed by working effectively with others, inside and outside the organisation, including our sponsors and donors. We actively support our colleagues, helping them to achieve their goals. We come together to create and implement solutions in our teams, across Plan International, with children, girls, young people, communities and our partners. We are inclusive and empowering: We respect all people, appreciate differences and challenge inequality in our programmes and our workplace. We support children, girls and young people to increase their confidence and to change their own lives. We empower our staff to give their best and develop their potential.

Mission

We engage people and partners to: • Empower children, young people and communities to make vital changes that tackle the root causes of discrimination against girls, exclusion and vulnerability • Drive change in practice and policy at local, national and global levels through our reach, experience and knowledge of the realities children face • Work with children and communities to prepare for and respond to crises and to overcome adversity • Support the safe and successful progression of children from birth to adulthood

Vision

We strive for a just world that advances children's rights and equality for girls.

Goal

Reach as many children as possible, particularly those who are excluded or marginalised, with high-quality programmes that deliver long-lasting benefits.
