Background

In 1994, Mr. Jon F. Morgan and his wife arrived in Cambodia, and while travelling to Siem Reap by boat he saw first-hand the life and difficulties of the people living upon the Tonle Sap Lake. From 1998 through 2007 Mr. Jon F. Morgan served as the first Executive Director of the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in Siem Reap Province. Beginning in 2002 he cooperated with the Asian Development Bank to bring health care services to some of these villages. That experience taught him that such intermittent “medical missions” were insufficient to meet the needs of those populations. Upon leaving the Angkor Hospital for Children in 2007 Mr. Jon F. Morgan began to plan and to raise funds for the creation of a Local Non Governmental Organization names The Lake Clinic Cambodia (TLC) which fully official registration with Ministry of Interior of Cambodia on 11th September 2007 that would be solely dedicated to serving these remote floating villages. In January of 2008 he commissioned the construction of the “TLC-1”, a boat capable of providing transportation and accommodations for health care personnel and together with Mr. Nhean Sakhem began the task of staffing the organization that would become The Lake Clinic-Cambodia. The TLC-1 was launched in July of 2008, and began service to three floating villages, Moat Klas and Steung Chrove in Siem Reap Province, and Pich Chakrey in Kompong Thom Province. Since the time TLC has expanded its target areas and the number of its staff.

The Lake Clinic is a project dedicated to bringing basic medical care, as well as disease surveillance and proper medical referrals to a severely isolated and underserved region of Cambodia- to Tonle Sap and Stung Sen River.
