Background

Khmer Association for Development of Countryside  (KAFDOC) is a non-profit NGO located in Kratie Province in Cambodia. It was founded on 23rd of October 1993 by a group of former refugees and professors who work for Community development in Kratie to analyze Khmer farmers’ needs in rural areas in order to improve the quality of life and sustainable social and economic development.

KAFDOC was registered by the Ministry of the Interior on 13th of December 1994. It has been legally registered by the Royal Government of Cambodia working towards Poverty Reduction, in lines with its National Poverty Reduction Strategy at provincial level and grass-roots community level in Cambodia.

Since 20 years, we work with the rural communities to improve their living conditions. We render particular assistance to vulnerable and poor women, children, disabled people and farmer groups who live in economic hardship and who face constant barriers to their empowerment and their social participation.
KAFDOC is an expert in education, but also makes allowance for other components of development such as: health care, agriculture and food security, water and sanitation, good governance, children rights and gender promotion. We believe that rural development is of national concern and we always implement our activities in partnership with donors, Cambodian/ International NGOs, relevant governmental institutions, target communities and local authorities.

Intervention Areas

KAFDOC is currently working in Kratie Province, where it covers 4 Districts and 1 Municipality with 15 Communes, 33 Villages, and in Mondulkiri Province, where it covers 1 District, 3 Communes and 12 Villages. KAFDOC has 13 members of staff (including 5 females), and one foreign advisory volunteer.

Context of the intervention zone

Our main target groups are vulnerable and poor women, children, disabled people, farmer groups and fishery groups who are living in remote rural areas. We offer programs focusing on generating incomes, improving their education, their healthcare and agricultural production, promoting children rights, gender equity, good governance and reducing disaster risks.

In addition, KAFDOC enhances target communities’ capacity building, with particular focus on vulnerable women, children and Community Based-Organisations (CBO). We aim to achieve this goal through improving health care, natural resources management, livelihood and disaster risk reduction.

Mission

KAFDOC works closely with disadvantaged population, children groups, women and farmers.
Our mission is to improve living conditions through active participation of target groups in sustainable natural resources management, quality education improvement, income generation activities, health care, good governance process, disaster risks management, children rights, gender promotion, community based ecotourism and increased agricultural production.

Goal

Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for disadvantaged groups, women, children and communities through effective and sustainable natural resource management, agriculture productivity, good governance, basic education and women representation in politics.
