Overview

RAO is a non-profit, non political and non-partisan Khmer Organization which was legally registered at the Ministry of Interior in March 13, 2006. Organizational Development (OD): RAO is governed by the Executive Committee (EC) composes of director, vice director, administrative manager and financial officer and advised by the Advisory Board composes of 4 persons from LAC, ECPAT-Cambodia and NGO CRC. Conforming to RAO’s Statute, the Executive Committee has to maintain good communication with its Advisory Board in the context of providing advice to the development of Strategic Planning, policies and the development of RAO. In return the Advisory Board will share experience and provide assistance to the development of RAO by designing the Strategic Planning and coordinating activities relating to the governance of the organization. Financial report and Strategic Planning will be reviewed and acknowledged by the Advisory Board. The Advisory Board coordinates in evaluating the yearly implementation of works of the organization Networking: RAO has implemented its activities efficiently in the context of cooperation with the networking with ECPAT-Cambodia, the NGOs Advocacy Committee Network (NACN) formed by Star Khamphochea, Land Action Network for Development (LAND) formed by NGO Forum, Inter-Committee for Protection of the Children’s Rights formed by the provincial governor of Svay Rieng province and Migrant NGO Network (MNN) formed by UNIFEM. RAO’s Director is the chairman of Khmer Farmer Association Network (KAFAN). RAO’s activities Whilst there are four distinct areas of RAO’s activities, these are all interrelated: • Children’s Rights Unit – works towards combating trafficking of children for sexual and/or labor exploitation and sexual abuse. and protection of the rights of CICL. • Women’s Rights Unit – works towards combating and preventing violence towards women both domestic and outside the family and protection of the rights of the migrant women. • Community Legal Education Unit – works towards increasing the legal awareness of local people and authorities. • Credit Project – works towards the provision of the poorest and most vulnerable families with compost fertilizer and cows on credit. Background

RAO is a new organization which has recently subsumed the work of CSP. Therefore to understand the background of RAO, it is necessary to describe the background of CSP. CSP was founded in 1996 and legally registered at the Ministry of Interior in 1999. CSP’s Svay Rieng project was localized in 2003 and has since been legally recognized by the main office and provincial authority. CSP’s work was formally subsumed into a new organization called the Rural Aid Organization. At present there are 11 members of staff working for RAO with 14 network agents located in 7 districts of Svay Rieng province. RAO is a Khmer non-governmental organization.

Mission

RAO strives to protect children and women from trafficking, sexual abuse and various forms of violence. RAO also works towards preventing these activities through education with the provision of community legal training and the alleviation of poverty through credit schemes creating the capacity to use natural fertilizer (Compost) and cow banks

RAO wants to see Cambodia become a State with a rule of law, children and women living in good conditions, rural communities having food security, good law enforcement, social justice and non-violence in society.
