Overview

Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS) is a Cambodian non-profit, non-governmental association founded in 1994 in the outskirt of Battambang city at Anhchanh village, O’char commune, Battambang town, Battambang province, the Kingdom of Cambodia. PPS has registered to Ministry of Interior of Cambodia on September 25th 2001 and has been recognized on April 25th 2002. Phare Ponleu Selpak is having Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with relevant governmental agencies and ministries such as, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts (MoCFA), Ministry of Education Youth and Sports (MoEYS), Ministry of Social Affairs, Veteran and Youth-rehabilitation (MoSAVY), Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and Cambodian Development Council (CDC). It is also a member of Cambodian Cooperation Committee (CCC).

Background

Phare Ponleu Selpak initial ideas started in 1986 within Site 2 refugee camp on the Thai border where drawing workshops were provided to children to help them overcome the trauma of war. This original idea continued after the refugees returned to their homeland, and Phare Ponleu Selpak was formally founded as a Cambodian non-governmental and non-profit association in 1994 in Battambang, by a group of nine former Site 2 children.
