Overview

NK is a local non-governmental humanitarian organization which considers neither religious, political nor racial differences in its work. NK is dedicated to working with the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged. NK works especially with women and children.

Background

Neary Khmer (NK) was established in 1999 and formally registered with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in April 2002, registration No. 337. Neary Khmer was founded by the staff of the Centre Canadien D’etudes Et De Cooperation International (CECI) and Australian Volunteers International (AVI) food security project which started in 1998. Since formal registration NK has a developed a focus of working with the poorest women and other disadvantaged community members. This has been to support the creation of improved lives for the poorest and to develop leadership skills to empower women. The benefits gained through NK’s projects with women have a flow on effect for the women’s children, other family members and the wider community.

Everything that Neary Khmer does is informed by the following values: Cooperation, Accountability, Responsiveness, Honesty & Openness. • Cooperation: Every Staff Member works cooperatively to ensure the best interests of the organisation in all interactions both within and outside of the staff team. Neary Khmer strives to work collaboratively in all actions/contact with its stake holders and any other. • Accountability: As a service provider, Neary Khmer will have a reporting mechanism in place which ensures it is accountable for implementing access and equity objectives for its clients. • Responsiveness: As a service provider, Neary Khmer will be sensitive to the needs and requirements of beneficiaries and be responsive as far as practicable to the particular circumstances of individuals. • Honesty: Neary Khmer staff practice honesty in all areas of communication and its practices. • Openness: Neary Khmer is open to scrutiny from any: person, organisation or agency that represents beneficiaries, its donors, government agencies and other relevant bodies or individuals.

Mission

The mission of the organisation is to coordinate community development activities in villages and cooperate with the Cambodian Government and other organisations to assist Cambodian people—particularly women and children living in rural areas. The organisation strives to build the capacity of communities to improve their quality of life. Communities will be assisted regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation

Vision

Where every person, particularly the poor and the poorest of the poor have access to and enjoy a good quality of life. Where there is peace and freedom for people to exercise their rights for social, cultural and environmental development.

Goal

NK works with the Cambodian population in rural areas to respond to their development needs in close cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia and other Cambodian and International NGOs.
