Background

Cambodia is a country deeply scarred by mass genocide committed from 1975 – 1979. This tragedy killed an estimated 1.7 million people, among them most educated or professional citizens, leaving future generations with few role models. When founder Jamie Amelio first visited Cambodia in 2003, she discovered a country rich in culture, history and beauty, but desperately lacking educational mentors. Caring for Cambodia was founded later that same year, and with the support of over 4,000 financial supporters and a team of over 250 committed volunteers, CFC now provides a world class education to children from pre- school through high school. We strive to make going to school every child’s inalienable right. To do this, we work hand in hand with entire communities. We want to make sending a child to school a choice that positively affects the entire family. With the help of our team of volunteers and financial partners, we are giving hope and dreams to a country in need. We hope you will read our story, and join us.

Mission

Caring for Cambodia (CFC) believes that when knowledge cannot be handed down, it must be handed out. We work to educate one child at a time today, to make a difference for Cambodia’s tomorrow. We create and sustain safe, modern, technologically equipped schools; mentor and professionally train teachers; and fund supplies and other tools needed to teach those who want to learn. CFC provides educational opportunities for Cambodian children so they may reach their highest potential and make valuable contributions to their communities.

By investing in our teaching staff, training and empowering them to be mentors. By making sure all of our students understand the impact of nutrition and health on their future success.
