2018 CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATION SUSTAINABILITY INDEX

The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Asia country encounter the same issues related to civic space decrease, ongoing conflict, and political development. For example, the conflict in Thailand’s Deep South between the insurgent group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) and the Thai authorities continued in 2018, although there were some promising developments. Meanwhile, in the Philippines, after decades-long peace negotiations between rebel groups in Mindanao and the Philippine government, the Bangsamoro Organic Law was passed by Congress and signed by President Duterte in 2018, leading to the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in 2019.
